January 2018: Georgia earns $11.4m by exporting 5.12m bottles of wine

Georgia exported 5.12 million bottles of wine to 24 countries in January 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Last month Georgia generated about $11.4 million from the sale of wine abroad.

Revenue increased by 31 percent from January 2017, while the volume of exports increased by 18 percent, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Export growth was notable in the following countries:

  • Kazakhstan – 108 percent increase (220,776 bottles)
  • Hong Kong – 100 percent increase (15,486 bottles)
  • Japan – 95 percent increase (26,892 bottles)
  • Latvia – 90 percent increase (116, 226 bottles)
  • Ukraine – 55 percent increase (624,030 bottles)

The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgia wine in January 2018 were:

  1. Russia – 3,534,780 bottles
  2. Ukraine – 624,030 bottles
  3. China – 250,238 bottles
  4. Kazakhstan – 220,776 bottles
  5. Poland – 177,018 bottles

Last year about 70 companies exported their wines abroad, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Meanwhile, Georgia exported 1.06 million bottles of Georgian brandy and 8,200 bottles of Chacha abroad in January 2018.
