Jan-July 2018: Georgia earns $107m by exporting 45m bottles of wine

Georgia exported 45.4 million bottles of wine to 50 countries in the first seven months of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.

In January-July of 2018 Georgia generated about $107.8 million from the sale of wine abroad.

Revenue increased by 28 percent from January-July 2018, while the volume of exports increased by 19 percent, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Export growth was notable in the following countries:

  • Japan – 124 percent increase (166,032 bottles)
  • Great Britain – 67 percent increase (50,062 bottles)
  • Poland – 32 percent increase (1,886,618 bottles)

To European countries:

  • Romania – 390 percent increase (84,654 bottles)
  • The Czech Republic– 68 percent (30,456 bottles)
  • Germany – 32 percent increase (308,734 bottles)
  • Lithuania – 21 percent increase (265,062 bottles)
  • The Netherlands – 17 percent increase (38,799 bottles)
  • Latvia – 16 percent (966,726 bottles)
  • Estonia – 7 percent (329,304 bottles)

To traditional export markets:

  • Kyrgyzstan –81 percent increase (140,370 bottles)
  • Kazakhstan – 41 percent increase (1,996,860 bottles)
  • Ukraine – 38 percent increase (5,040,319 bottles)
  • Russia – 20 percent increase (28,564,609 bottles)
  • Belarus – 4 percent increase (846,822 bottles)

The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgia wine in January-July 2018 were:

  1. Russia – 28,564,609 bottles
  2. Ukraine – 5,040,319 bottles
  3. China – 3,514,066 bottles
  4. Kazakhstan – 1,996,860 bottles
  5. Poland – 1,886,618 bottles

Meanwhile, Georgia exported 9.9 million bottles of Georgian brandy (+20 percent) and 219,500 bottles of Chacha (+114 percent) abroad in January-July 2018.

In total, Georgia has sold $173 million worth of alcoholic beverages in January-July 2018, including wine, brandy, chacha and others.
