Georgia wins silver and bronze at international karate event

Georgia has won one silver and one bronze medal at a prestigious international karate event in the Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana.

Andrei Zinchenko (65kg weight category) received silver and Mikheil Tsiklauri (75kg weight category) received bronze at the world karate championship that is held once every four year.

This has been a historic result for Georgia as the country has been listed among the winners for the first time since joining the competition in 1991.

Georgian athletes were among 192 sportsmen, both men and women, in four weight categories at the World Championship of Full Contact Shinkyokushinkai Karate.

Apart from taking the world’s top fourth place in team competition Georgia has also received the right to host the European championship in 2020.
