Georgia has done exceedingly well at the Junior and Under 23 European Weightlifting Championships in Eilat, Israel.

Georgian athletes took home a total of 22 medals from the December 4-10 competition.

A poignant moment of the event was when Georgian Olympic and world champion Lasha Talakadze, 23, set two world records and added European Under-23 Super-Heavyweight title to his list of achievements.

In his first attempt Talakhadze lifted 200kg in the snatch, breaking the 2011 record of Russia’s Ruslan Albegov.

He then bettered it by 5kg in his second attempt, where he set another world record.

In total combining both snatch and clean and jerk, Talakhadze lifted 440kg beating Albegov’s record of 435kg.
