Georgia wins first female gold in weightlifting in US, 5 Dec 2017 - 13:23, Tbilisi,Georgia

Anastasia Hotfrid, representing Georgia at the world championship in weightlifting in the United States (US), has won the Georgian team’s first gold medal. .

She competed in the 90kg category and lifted 265kg in total (snatch-120kg and clean and jerk-145kg).

Hotfid managed to defeat her rivals from Chile and the Dominican Republic.

Hotfrid, 21, was born in Ukraine and is married to the Ukrainian weightlifting coach and former Olympic weightlifter Denys Hotfrid.

In 2015, because of a conflict within the Ukrainian weightlifting team, she moved to Georgia. 

The current competition is being held in the US city of Anaheim.

From males, Shota Mishveladze was able to win bronze in the 62kg category. 

Tomorrow Georgian Olympic champion in weightlifting Lasha Talakhadze will try to win the world championship.
