Employees of the Georgian Interior Ministry have won six gold medals at the 29th World Powerlifting Championship held in the Ukrainian city of Lutsk on May 19, the Georgian Interior Ministry reports.
The championship featured 500 athletes from 25 countries worldwide.

The winners are:
- Koba Kobakhidze - Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs).
- Ramaz Gabaidze – Border Police Department.
- Teimuraz Gogoladze – Special Tasks Department.
- David Joidze – Building Protection Department.
- Shalva Bebiashvili – Strategic Pipelines’ Protection Department.
Georgian weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze has been put on top of the list of World Weightlifting Lifter of the Year poll.
Georgian athletes have triumphed at the European Weightlifting Championship receiving ten gold, three silver and two bronze medals in Bucharest, Romania. Georgia’s weightlifting world champion and record-breaking athlete, Lasha Talakhadze received three gold medals in different categories.
Georgian weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze has been crowned the country's 2017 Sportsperson of the Year. He was honoured with the title at a special ceremony organised by the Georgian National Olympic Committee today.
Georgia has done exceedingly well at the Junior and Under 23 European Weightlifting Championships in Eilat, Israel. Georgian weightlifters won 22 medals at the competition.
