"We will support the decision of the American people", says Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili about the United States (US) presidential election taking place in America today.

In the next few hours people all over the US will elect the country's 45th president. Election Day in the US is Tuesday, November 8 (Tuesday evening Georgia-time).

When speaking about the outcome of the US election and of Georgia's relationship with the US Kvirikashvili said: "America is Georgia's most important strategic partner”.

In the past 25 years, support from the US has proven vital in the process of maintaining our sovereignty and independence. Today we are talking about the next 25 years of our partnership with the US, which is very important to us," Kvirikashvili said on Monday.

Meanwhile today Tamar Chugoashvili, a member of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party and candidate for First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, said "no matter the outcome of the elections, the US will remain as Georgia’s main strategic partner".

Chugoshvili assessed the upcoming US election as "very important,” "pretty extraordinary” and "different from all previous presidential elections”.

I believe that Georgia will remain an important country in our region for the US, no matter who becomes the next president. And even more, I believe our cooperation will further deepen in all directions,” Chugoshvili said.

US Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly confirmed his country's foreign policy would remain the same regardless of the election outcome.

We are aware of the challenges Georgia face, related to Russia. Despite the election outcome we will not revise our foreign policy,” Kelly told a local TV company.
