Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janelidze says Georgia has strong support from the United States (US) and bilateral strategic cooperation is irreversible, no matter who leads America - a Republican or Democrat president.
Georgia has very strong support from both parties,” Janelidze said at a reception at the United States Embassy to Georgia in capital Tbilisi early today where diplomats, Georgian officials and other invited guests gathered to learn preliminary results of the US presidential election.
The US is our strategic partner and next year we mark the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. Our relations are based on joint benefits and taking each other’s interests into account,” Janelidze said.
US Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly said regardless of the election outcome, "Georgia-US strategic cooperation is an aspect that won’t change, as this is a very strong partnership.”

Every time when I visit Washington I see the strong support to what is being done in Georgia. Our support will increase in the future as Georgia takes really special steps to cope with regional challenges,” Kelly said.
In yesterday’s US presidential election Republican candidate Donald Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton to become the 45th president of the United States.
Georgian top officials, the country's President and Prime Minister have already congratulated Trump on his election victory.
