Georgia’s Honorary Consulate has opened its doors in Jerusalem, Israel.
Sunday’s opening ceremony was attended by Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and many other high officials from Israel’s Foreign Ministry.
Lieberman, who resigned yesterday, gave a speech that stressed the two countries’ 2600-year-old friendship.
"Lasting friendship between Georgia and Israel that spans more than 2000 years is a great happiness,” he said.
"We deepen our relations bilaterally and internationally on a daily basis. A clear example of this is establishing visa free travel between Georgia and Israel.”
Georgia’s Honorary Consul in Israel will be Yigal Amedi, who said it was the Honorary Consulate’s role to further deepen the friendship between Georgia and Israel.
The Honorary Consulate in Israel will support and intensify Georgia and Israel’s cultural, educational and economic collaboration.
