Georgia’s First Vice Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze might step up as the country’s new Foreign Minister since Giorgi Kvirikashvili – Prime Minister candidate – presented him to this role today.
Janelidze, 34, will become Minister if Parliament confirms the Cabinet presented by Kvirikashvili.
Janelidze has served as First Deputy Foreign Minister since September 2015. Prior to this he was Deputy Economy Minister and has led the Department for Foreign Trade and International Economic Relations for two years.
He holds a Master’s degree at Business Administration from Grenoble Graduate School of Business in France.
Prior to this he graduated from Tbilisi-based Caucasus School of Business, also Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Tbilisi State University where he majored at international relations.
In 2011, Janelidze was awarded with the Order of Honor by then-President Mikheil Saakashvili.
He speaks Georgian, English, German and Russian.
