Georgia looks to strengthen ties with Turkey

Georgia-Turkey relations were high on the agenda today during the meeting between Georgia’s Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and Turkish Ambassador to Georgia Zeki Levent Gümrükçü.

The two officials met in Tbilisi and spoke about enhancing the strategic partnership between the two nations and cooperating more effectively across a range of sectors including political, trade and economic, and  transport and energy.

Special focus was also made on the importance of carrying out high-level bilateral visits of regional country leaders. 

In particular, the officials mentioned the upcoming Georgia visit of the Turkish Foreign Minister and the trilateral meeting between the Georgian, Azerbaijani and Turkish Foreign Ministers. 

The sides also discussed the intention to hold a meeting between the Georgian and Turkish Prime Ministers in the format of High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

Today Gümrükçü reaffirmed his unequivocal support for Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
