Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, and Guðni Jóhannesson, the President of Iceland who is on a visit to the country, on Wednesday discussed prospective directions of cooperation between the two states.
Papuashvili noted the importance of the first high-level visit from Iceland and thanked the visiting official for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic integration, the Parliament’s press office said.

Jóhannesson noted it was “important” to see small states cooperate at the international level to achieve “common goals”.
The parties also reviewed cooperation in renewable energy, combating climate change, innovation, cultural and educational exchanges, with Jóhannesson noting Iceland’s “great success” in the use of hydropower and geothermal energy.
He also emphasised Georgia’s “unique” geographical location and a “great potential” for using water energy, expressing readiness to share the “best experience” of his country in the sector.
