Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Parliamentary Majority Leader Mamuka Mdinaradze, on Friday met medical staff of Tbilisi-based Central University Clinic, also known as the Republican Hospital, to discuss the planned demolition of the facility and its replacement with a new clinic.
The Government Administration said Kobakhidze listened to the opinions, arguments, and information from the medical staff regarding the “possible ways” to solve the problem.
The meeting followed the controversial plan for the demolition, which sparked speculation around the hospital’s fate and fears its numerous personnel could lose jobs following the removal of the 1973-built venue located in central Tbilisi.
The parties highlighted the importance of making a “wise decision” for not damaging the process and to take into account the interest of the society as well as the medical personnel.
The Administration added the next meeting was scheduled for Saturday, which would be attended by the country’s Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili, and noted the final decision would be made in the near future.
