The Investigation Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry on Friday said it had detained one individual for smuggling a “large amount” of gold products through the customs in the southern border with Armenia.
The individual was found to have transported 1,735 grams of gold products, with a total customs value of ₾216,758 ($81,648), through the Sadakhlo Vehicle Customs Checkpoint by using a specially arranged concealed compartment in their vehicle.
The body said the investigation was ongoing with an article involving imprisonment for five to seven years.
