The Investigation Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry has charged five individuals for causing a “large amount” of property damage via manufacture and use of forged tax documents, the state body announced on Friday.

The Service said its investigation had found the offenders had established two fictitious companies to produce eight forged documents for companies under their management, for alleged performance of works.

Then they created and used ₾103,469 ($38,676) in VAT assets created through the documentation.

The body also said “appropriate procedures” were being carried out to compensate for the damage caused to the state, with the crime also punishable by four to seven years in prison.
