Georgian national football coach Willy Sagnol was ranked ninth this week in the rankings for Men’s World Best National Coach, as part of an annual awards presented by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
Sagnol took the position with six points, with the list also including Gareth Southgate, a former coach of the England national football team, France’s Didier Deschamps, Lionel Scaloni of Argentina and Luis de la Fuente,the coach of the Spanish national team who won the title.
The Georgian Football Federation in November extended its contract with Sagnol until 2028.
Sagnol took charge of the team in February 2021. He has led the squad in 44 matches, with 20 wins, six draws and 17 losses.
Starting in 2025, he will take the squad through the qualification stage for the 2026 World Cup. The draw for the group stage of the qualifiers will take place on December 13.
