Giorgi Mamardashvili, a goalkeeper of the Georgian national team and the Spanish football club Valencia, was ranked third this week in the rankings of Men’s World Best Goalkeeper, as part of an annual awards presented by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
Mamardashvili took the position with 55 points, with the Georgian ranked among top players like Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris Saint-Germain, Athletic Bilbao’s Unaï Simon and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, who won the title of the Men’s World Best Goalkeeper.
Liverpool Football Club in August officially announced an agreement to sign Mamardashvili from Valencia, with the player set to join the Premier League club starting in the 2025-26 season. The club praised the 23-year-old’s “impressive” performances during this year's UEFA Euro 2024 tournament, where he helped his national team reach the round of 16 on their debut.
The Georgian was also included in the list of top five Under-25 goalkeepers last year by the International Centre for Sports Studies - CIES Football Observatory, while Top Soccer Blog, a website offering articles on global football, ranked him in the list of 10 best goalkeepers.
Transfermarkt, a website tracking market value of football players and teams worldwide, in July set the value for Mamardashvili at €45 million after his performances at the Euros, with the figure making him the joint most expensive goalkeeper in the world.
