Giorgi Mamardashvili, a goalkeeper of the Georgian national team and the Spanish football club Valencia, is close to joining the English side Liverpool, Fabrizio Romano, the Italian sports journalist, said on Thursday.
Romano said the deal for the signing was “on the verge of being completed”.
The Athletic, the sports department of The New York Times, said Liverpool were “exploring a deal for the 23-year-old, who impressed for Georgia during their European Championship campaign” in Germany.
The outlet also said a transfer fee would be €40 million, with Mamardashvili expected to remain at Valencia for a year as part of the deal, before officially joining Liverpool next summer.
Mamardashvili made 29 saves in four matches at the Euros, while also keeping 13 clean sheets in 37 La Liga games last season.
