Georgia’s Revenue Service on Tuesday said its professionals had prevented attempts of smuggling of a “large amount” of undeclared tobacco products across the country’s borders last month.
A total of 38,260 cigarettes were seized from Georgian and foreign citizens of different countries following personal, luggage and vehicle searches.
The offenders were fined about ₾1,000 ($366), while two of the individuals who had committed repeat offences were given a ₾3,000 ($1,100) fine.
The body added the cases had been handed over to the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance.
