A celebration of Italy’s Day of National Unification and Armed Forces, commemorating soldiers who have died for the country, was marked on Thursday in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, the Italian Embassy to the country said.
The date was marked at the capital city’s memorial of heroes fallen for Georgia’s unity, where Ambassador Massimiliano D'Antuono and Captain Gianfranco Vizzini, the Defence Attaché of Italy in Azerbaijan and Georgia, laid wreaths.
The celebration also included a reception attended by representatives of Georgia’s defence institutions, accredited ambassadors and military attachés, the diplomatic representation said.
D'Antuono addressed the guests by quoting Sergio Mattarella, the Italian President, and praised the efforts of Italian troops in international missions, emphasising their role in “maintaining peace and contributing to establishment of Italy as an independent, free state loyal to peace and democratic values”.
