The Migration Department of Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs expelled 60 citizens of different countries in October, the body said on Saturday.
The Department deported citizens of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia, India, Turkmenistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Iraq, Nigeria, Jordan, Algeria, Egypt, and Ghana, among which some of the expelled were involved in various “forms of antisocial activities”.
The state body noted several individuals had left Georgia “voluntarily”, while others had been forcibly expelled based on “measures taken by the Migration Department”.
As of October 2024, 384 foreign citizens had been deported from Georgia, representing a year-on-year increase of 26 percent, the body reported.
It also said the Migration Department was actively developing mechanisms to combat illegal migration and aligning more closely with international standards, and announced plans for legislative changes to enhance its capabilities to ensure “effective expulsion procedures for persons living in the country without lawful grounds”.
