Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said a “very important, decisive [parliamentary] election” had taken place in the country, which was “a kind of referendum where the fate of war and peace was decided.”
In an interview with an Imedi TV live programme, the PM noted the voters “ultimately chose peace as there was no other alternative to this” by supporting the ruling Georgian Dream party, calling it a “convincing victory”, and added “peace is the main condition for further development [of the country]”.
Kobakhidze thanked their supporters for “assessing everything rightly and making a rational choice”, while also stressing that the Government “has always felt their support” that was “the main reason we managed to go through extremely challenging processes with dignity over the past four years [of the GD governance]”.
“Without the people's support, experience, and wise decisions, the Government alone could not have accomplished all this. In this case too, the people stood by the right decision”, he noted and added that this would ensure “the peaceful, long-term, and stable development” of the country.
