Edelweiss Air, a subsidiary of Swiss International Air Lines and a member of the Lufthansa Group, will commence direct flights from Zurich to Tbilisi starting April 12, 2025, the United Airports of Georgia said on Wednesday.
The body added the new route would operate twice per week using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Irakli Karkashadze, the CEO of the UAG, said the agreement was the result of “two years of active negotiations” with the airline.
We are glad that our negotiations with the airline have been successfully completed, resulting in another representative of a global aviation group entering the Georgian market. It is important to highlight that Zurich is a brand-new destination for Georgian airports, as historically, no flights have operated in that direction. Edelweiss Air primarily focuses on resort operations, and our goal is to attract high-spending tourists from Switzerland”, he said.
Tickets for the new route are now available for purchase on both Edelweiss and Swiss International Airlines websites, the UAG said.
Edelweiss Air, established 29 years ago, operates flights to 90 destinations in Europe and the United States from its Zurich base.
