An air traffic agreement signed this week between Georgia and Hong Kong will enable airlines to carry out regular passenger and cargo flights without restriction of capacity, frequency or types of aircraft prior to the coming into force of an intergovernmental agreement, the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency said on Thursday.
The agreement was signed between authorities of Georgia and the Special Administrative Region of China at an Air Service Negotiation event of the International Civil Aviation Organisation in Malaysia, running between Monday and Friday.
The sides also discussed a draft of the intergovernmental bilateral agreement on air traffic.
“Signing of the memorandum of understanding on air traffic generates an advantageous prerequisite for beginning direct regular flights between Georgia and Hong Kong. We are certain that by considering the mentioned factors, interest of airlines in new directions will increase”, Agency Director Givi Davitashvili, who signed the document from the Georgian side, said.
Georgia signed a visa-free travel agreement with Hong Kong in September, enabling its nationals to travel and stay in the region for 30 consecutive days starting later that month.
