Chinese foreign office says Beijing “always respects choice of Georgian people” following elections

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian on Tuesday said China was willing to work with the Georgian Government to strengthen bilateral relations, adding his/her Government “always respects the choice of the Georgian people”, in comments following parliamentary elections in the country on Saturday.

China has noted that Georgia's parliamentary elections were held smoothly. China always respects the choice of the Georgian people and sincerely hopes for stability and prosperity in Georgia. We are willing to work with Georgia to push forward bilateral relations”, Lin said.

According to the results from the Central Election Commission, the ruling Georgian Dream party has secured 53.9 percent of the vote, followed by the Coalition for Change with 11 percent, Unity to Save Georgia with 10.1 percent, Strong Georgia with 8.8 percent, and Gakharia for Georgia with 7.7 percent.
