Pascal Allizard, the Special Coordinator of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, on Sunday expressed his hope that Georgia’s newly elected Government would “bring the country closer” to its European integration goals.

I sincerely hope that the leadership elected yesterday will effectively deal with the main challenges that this country is facing and bring Georgia closer to the goals related to joining the European Union", Allizard said during a presentation of findings by the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights following the general elections on Saturday.

The Coordinator also extended his gratitude to the Georgian authorities for their “cooperation throughout the election mission” and expressed appreciation for the “warm welcome” by Georgian citizens on election day.

The ruling Georgian Dream party has secured 54 percent of the vote in the elections according to the latest data by the country’s Central Election Commission.
