Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday highlighted the importance of voter participation in the ongoing parliamentary elections to ensure a constitutional majority and emphasised the Georgian Dream party’s goal to create “maximum guarantees for the stable development of the country”.

In his comments to the press, Kobakhidze stressed the significance of sociological research and door-to-door results, and noted the Georgian Dream party was “the only political party that conducted door-to-door canvassing”.

The ruling Georgian Dream party has achieved “record-high” public support since 2012 when the party came into power, the PM said and noted this was the result of the Government’s efforts that were acknowledged by the Georgian citizens.

Kobakhidze also called on “all political parties to recognise the election results” to be presented by the Central Election Commission, to accept that the Georgian citizens “finally refused to return to the dark past”.

This will be the ninth time the opposition will experience a significant defeat in the elections. We anticipate over a million votes, which would set a record. Several factors contribute to this expectation. Firstly, our commitment to maintaining peace in the country”, he said.

In the past four years, we have boosted the economy by ₾40 billion ($14. bln), increasing it from ₾50 billion ($18.3 bln) to ₾90 billion ($33 bln). This has led to a reduction in unemployment and poverty, while the average salary has risen to over ₾2,000 ($735), up from ₾712 ($261) when we took office. We have made progress in all areas”, he added.

Kobakhidze also expressed confidence that approximately 60 percent of the Georgian population would support “peaceful development” in today’s elections.
