Polling stations have officially opened across Georgia, as voting commenced for the country's parliamentary elections, Natia Ioseliani, the Spokesperson of the Central Election Commission, told the press on Saturday.

Ioseliani noted the election administration was prepared to administer “the first large-scale modernised elections in full compliance with the legislation, transparently and at a high professional level”.

There were minor flaws in some polling stations, although we had an immediate response to all the technical errors in the precinct election commissions in the morning. Accordingly, the process is now taking place in a peaceful environment. All polling stations are currently accepting voters and the voting [process] is ongoing”, she said.

Georgia is holding parliamentary elections today that mark the country's first fully-proportional vote since it regained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, and the first vote where approximately 90 percent of ballots will be cast electronically.
