Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, who has cast her ballot in today’s parliamentary elections, said she voted for a “new Georgia”.
“I voted for a new Georgia, the Georgia for which I came to this country 22 years ago, the one my ancestors prayed for. I cast my vote for Georgia, which I am sure the whole country is praying for”, Zourabichvili noted as she congratulated people on the election day.
The President emphasised “I did not vote for who, but for what this time”, adding “this evening, we will all be winners. No one will be defeated, because Georgia will win”.
Georgian citizens domestically and abroad are voting today in "historic" parliamentary elections that mark the country's first fully-proportional vote since it regained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
The Georgian Central Election Commission has registered 3,508,294 eligible voters, with 3,113,747 casting their ballots electronically. Among them, 135,922 first-time voters will participate.
For the first time, all 150 seats in Georgia’s unicameral Parliament will be filled under a fully proportional system.
