Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday highlighted his Government’s two national tasks of restoration of the country’s territorial integrity and “complete eradication” of poverty in the country.

In his remarks at a Government meeting, Kobakhidze noted his team had “very ambitious” plans for the country’s development.

The rest will be decided on October 26 [parliamentary elections], and I am sure that this decision will be one that will help the stable, peaceful development of our country”, the PM said.

He claimed the domestic poverty rate would decrease to below four percent by 2028.

In comments on  restoration of territorial integrity, the Government head stressed the country’s reunification “cannot take place without reconciliation with Abkhazians and Ossetians”.

As for the restoration of territorial integrity, of course, a lot will depend on global and regional trends and development, although we think that the fulfilment of this national task is absolutely real. The importance of peaceful policies and reconciliation should be emphasised once again. There can be no reunification without reconciliation”, he continued.

He further highlighted the importance of restoring relations with “our Abkhazian and Ossetian sisters and brothers” by saying that “a lot of things must be done in this direction in the future”.
