Georgian PM highlights “unprecedentedly peaceful” environment ahead of Saturday’s elections

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday expressed his satisfaction campaigning across the country ahead of Saturday’s parliamentary elections was being run in an “unprecedentedly peaceful” environment, which he said was “very important”.

In his remarks at a Government meeting, Kobakhidze noted it would also be ensured that the elections would be  held in a “free and competitive” environment.

In two days, very important, fundamental parliamentary elections are held in Georgia. I would like to express satisfaction that the elections are set to be held in an unprecedentedly peaceful environment, which is very important. It will also be ensured that the elections are held in a free and competitive environment, which is our responsibility”, the PM said.

He extended his gratitude to law enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri, the State Security Service and its Head  for their “tireless work”, and further pointed out that “we have to do everything in order to hold the elections in our country in this kind of environment through  the end of October 26”.
