Lasha Kardava, the Health and Social Affairs Minister of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, and international experts from the World Health Organisation, on Thursday discussed the issue of granting certification of malaria-free status to Georgia.

The sides also devoted their attention to the current situation in the Russian-occupied north-western Georgian region of Abkhazia and the importance of using international practices in the process, the press service of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia said.

It also added in case of the WHO’s positive assessment to be made this month, Georgia would get the status of a malaria-free country.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health.
