Georgian PM describes upcoming general elections as “decisive moment” in country’s history

Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia and Head of the ruling Georgian Dream party's election staff, on Thursday described the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled on October 26 as a “decisive moment” in the history of the country.

Speaking at the opening event of the Club of the ruling Georgian Dream party’s Supporters, Kobakhidze said the GD party had around 60 percent support, however, “we must be constantly mobilised and each vote is of a special significance for us”, adding the party “will make all efforts to achieve the highest results” in the elections.

“We are all members of the Club of Georgia’s Supporters and today, more than ever, our country needs the support. We have gone through the hardest four years [...], and now there is a “decisive moment” in our country’s history, when it is necessary for us all to stand together, [and] I am sure that we all will stand together”, he noted.

The PM also added the GD party would present its election programme, outlining a “detailed plan” for the country's development over the next four years, on October 7 or 9. 

The presentation of the ruling GD party’s election programme scheduled on October 1 was postponed due to the Prime Minister’s health conditions.
