Natia Turnava, the Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, and Marta Kightley, the First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Poland, on Tuesday discussed Georgia’s progress in joining the Single Euro Payments Area, which enables cashless euro payments to be made via credit transfer and direct debit to anywhere in the European Union, as well as a number of non-EU countries.
At the meeting, held during events celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Central Bank of Poland, the parties emphasised the “strong cooperation” between the two national banks and reviewed new initiatives for further collaboration, the NBG said.
Turnava expressed her appreciation for Poland’s “crucial support” to Georgia’s integration into the SEPA and requested further assistance “to expedite the process”. The Bank noted the parties had also highlighted Poland’s "significant role" in enhancing the supervisory functions of the NBG over the years.
The conversation also touched on the broader economic situation in the wider region, along with challenges and opportunities in the financial sector, with the parties agreeing to begin work on a memorandum of cooperation for strengthening ties and ensuring further progress.
