Natia Turnava, the Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, on Friday met Nurkhat Kushimov, the Chief Executive Officer of the Astana Financial Services Authority, a regulatory authority overseeing both financial and non-financial services, to discuss “strong business ties” between the two bodies.
The NBG said the meeting also discussed the “economic landscape” of the South Caucasian region, as well as challenges and opportunities within the financial sector, with Turnava emphasising Georgia's “active efforts” for integrating its financial services with neighbouring countries.
The parties also expressed optimism for continued cooperation and said it would contribute to Georgia's economic growth.
The NBG and the AFSA have a long history of collaboration. In 2018, we signed a memorandum of understanding to ensure close cooperation, information exchange, and mutual support in fulfilling our duties, promoting the safe and sound functioning of financial institutions, and strengthening banking and capital markets”, Turnava said.
She added “active negotiations on several initiatives” aimed at developing the financial and capital markets were ongoing with the AFSA.
