Georgia’s Under-20 weightlifting team claimed five medals in the snatch, clean and jerk and total at the 2024 Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Leon, Spain, the Georgian National Olympic Committee said on Saturday.
Mariam Murgvliani won a silver medal in snatch, lifting 105 kg, while she also overcame 125 kg in clean and jerk, but with a total of 230 kg, she earned a bronze medal.
Guram Vekua secured a bronze medal after lifting 162 kg in snatch and followed up with a 200 kg lift in clean and jerk to claim silver, achieving a total of 362 kg that placed him third overall.
Goga Jajvani also won a bronze medal in snatch.
The tournament is an annual event organised by the International Weightlifting Federation that brings together the world’s top junior weightlifters under the age of 20. The 2024 contest was held from September 19 to 27.
