Georgian FM features at UN Summit of Future

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili, who is participating in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, on Sunday featured in the Summit of the Future held at the initiative of António Guterres, the UN Secretary General.

Darchiashvili attended the opening ceremony of the Summit and delivered a speech in an interactive dialogue on the issues of improving global governance institutions and sustainable development.

The top Georgian diplomat highlighted the importance of international financial institutions in overcoming the challenges facing the world.

He also focused on the Georgian Government’s “successful” cooperation with global financial institutions, and reviewed the country's economic and financial policies, which he said had led to sustainable economic growth over the recent years.

 

Darchiashvili noted the Government's efforts to promote “further” economic development of the country, including development of global transport projects and infrastructure, and expressed his hope for “successful” cooperation with international financial institutions.

The Summit was attended by heads of state and foreign ministers of UN member states.

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze is also scheduled to address participants of a plenary session of the Summit.
