Georgia on Thursday was elected to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency for the first time.
The country will be a member of the Board for the 2024-2026 term.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia noted the development was “reinforcing the country’s commitment” to global security and development.
The Board examines and makes recommendations to the General Conference on the Agency’s financial statements, programme and budget.
It considers applications for membership, approves safeguards agreements and the publication of the Agency’s safety standards.
