The Resorts Development Agency of the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development has become a member of the European Historic Thermal Towns Association, the Agency said.
Isabelle Grégoire, the Association’s Vice President, presented a membership certificate to Aleksandre Onofrishvili, the Agency’s Director, on Friday at the 15th General Assembly of the EHTTA in the city of Spa, Belgium.
In his speech at the Autumn General Assembly, Onofrishvili highlighted the importance of “this day”, when the Agency “is given an opportunity to use the international platform and contacts, and to better introduce the rich resort potential of Georgia to the European community”, the body noted.
It also emphasised that the country’s membership of the Association would contribute to “the positioning, promotion, commercialisation and development of tourist products” of Georgian balneological resorts internationally.
The topics of the spa heritage of the member states and development opportunities of thermal resorts, as well as modern trends and visions, were also discussed at the Assembly, the Agency added.
The EHITA is a certified association of the Council of Europe and an affiliated member of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, uniting 51 members from 18 European countries.
