Georgia’s Black Sea region of Adjara is hosting the International Birdwatching Festival, with experts and guests from different countries visiting the region, the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Adjara said on Thursday.
A special tour has already been organised for visitors and people interested in the birdwatching process at the Sakhalvasho watchpoint, and further entertainment and educational excursions are also planned in the village of Shuamta observation platform and Kolkheti National Park, with transportation, binoculars and a guide to be provided for tourists, the Department noted.
The Tourist Department highlighted that the Black Sea coast, in particular, the outskirts of Batumi, was famous as the Eastern Black Sea Migration Corridor with a recorded number of more than 1,000,000 migratory predatory birds annually, adding consequently, the region was considered “one of the largest” corridors for the migration of raptorial birds worldwide and was ranked third in the world by attracting more and more international tourists and scientists interested in the field every year.
Birdwatching tourism, which has become one of the popular ecotourism destinations, has the greatest potential in Adjara, it also pointed out.
The International Birdwatching Festival is held in the region under the organisation of the Tourism Product Development Agency of the Adjara Tourism Department.
