Georgian mixed martial artist Merab Dvalishvili on Saturday defeated his American opponent Sean O'Malley at UFC at Sphere in Las Vegas and became bantamweight champion.

The 33-year-old Georgian put on an outstanding performance in capturing the bantamweight championship with a unanimous decision win over Sean O'Malley. From the start of the fight, Dvalishvili kept a high pace and repeatedly took down his American rival over the course of five rounds to claim the title. 

At the post-fight press conference, Dvalishvili said his first emotion was fantastic, “I couldn't control myself. When I stood up, I realised the belt was mine and I was the champion. Now I analyse what happened, I defeated three former champions, and Sean O'Malley is the fourth”.

The MMA champion added that Georgia “gave him all” and he fought for his country.

Dvalishvili has 18 wins in 22 mixed fights in total.
