Georgian PM highlights Govt’s efforts in raising prestige of teaching profession, increased salary

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday highlighted the country’s Government’s efforts in “raising the prestige of the teacher profession” at a ceremony dedicated to the National Teacher's Day marking the teacher’s contributions to the field.

Kobakhidze told the National Teacher Prize an award ceremony, the teacher's work represented “one of the most important activities”, and noted it was in the “best interests of the development of our country”, to appreciate teacher's work, and ensure the profession occupied an “even more important place in our public life”.

We all come from childhood, we all had school years and we all remember very well how much each teacher leaves an impact on the future of each of us, and you serve a special effort, for which I want to extend my gratitude”, he said.


As you are aware, the teachers’ salary has significantly increased this year and it will continue to increase in the future. Active work is also being carried out in promotion of teacher qualification. It is our duty to constantly take care of creating better conditions for you”, he added.

The PM stated he had been “continuously engaged” in teaching activities for 18 years, expressing solidarity towards teachers, and added he hoped this would be reflected in the Government’s efforts to further improve the education system.

The head of the Government also extended his gratitude to Education Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari for his efforts on establishing the National Teacher's Day and a “high prize” to “highlight and appreciate the role of teachers in society” for the first time in the recent history of Georgia, noting the state annually marked the date on October 27 on the birthday of Iakob Gogebashvili - Georgian educator, teacher, publicist, writer and founder of the scientific pedagogy in the country.
