Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, and his delegation on Tuesday met Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, to discuss the existing relations and the importance of strategic partnership between the two countries.
The meeting also discussed a possibilities of development of economic cooperation, with the parties also reviewing security challenges in the South Caucasus region and future steps contributing to creation of a ”sustainable and peaceful environment” in the region, the Georgian Parliament said.
The Georgian officials also briefed Mirzoyan on the country's integration process into the European Union and the ”difficult situation” in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), extending their gratitude to the Armenian FM for his country’s support for the United Nations resolution on internally displaced persons from the regions, adopted by the 78th UN General Assembly in June.
On his part, Mirzoyan confirmed his “unconditional support” for the territorial integrity of Georgia.
The parties also discussed the process of the importance of ”expedited completion” of the ongoing work on border delimitation and demarcation process in the South Caucasus, with Samkharadze expressing the Georgian Government’s readiness to contribute to the process of normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and assist the country on the path of integration into the EU through experience-sharing.
