Georgian, Armenian parliaments’ foreign affairs committees review strategic partnership

The strategic partnership between Georgia and Armenia was discussed on Monday at a joint sitting of the foreign affairs committees of the two countries’ parliaments in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, and his Armenian counterpart Sargis Khandanyan underlined the importance of the development of new formats of parliamentary cooperation and focused on the regional security issues, challenges and the grave situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia.

Samkharadze thanked his counterpart for supporting the United Nations Resolution on the Status of IDPs and Refugees from Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions and expressed his commitment to rendering assistance to Armenia in approximation to European Union standards and sharing the experience of the fulfilment of the Association Agreement with the bloc.

“We reviewed the friendly relations and strategic partnership between our countries and underlined that our bilateral relations hit the highest point. We also agreed on the enhancement of parliamentary cooperation”, he noted.

Khandanyan provided details of the ongoing developments in Armenia and its relations with Azerbaijan.
