Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee Chair, Armenian officials discuss cooperation

The existing relations and strategic partnership between Georgia and Armenia were discussed on Monday in a meeting between Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, and Alen Simonyan, the President of the National Assembly of Armenia.

The Georgian Parliament said the meeting also featured Ruben Rubinyan, the Vice President of the Assembly and the Head of the Armenia and Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group, with the parties also discussing the matters of strengthening parliamentary ties as well as possibilities of creating new bilateral and regional parliamentary formats.

The officials also reviewed security matters and the current situation in the South Caucasus region, while also emphasising the importance of the Anaklia deep sea port project,   earmarked to be built in Georgia’s Black Sea town to ensure increased logistical capability between Asia and Europe, and the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project, a new transmission route to deliver green energy from Azerbaijan to Europe for the development process of the region.

The parties also discussed the process of Georgia's integration into the European Union and the dynamics of Armenia and EU relations.

At the meeting with the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, we discussed all the important matters between the two countries. I emphasised that Georgia is ready to contribute to the process of regulating relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and help Armenia on the path of integration into the EU by sharing its acquired experience”, Samkharadze said.
