Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday highlighted the urban renewal project implemented in the town of Tkibuli in west-central Georgia and said this “outstanding” place was much more developed now than 10, 20 and 30 years ago.

In his address at the event dedicated to the town of Tkibuli and Miners Day, Kobakhidze congratulated the local population on this day, saying “Tkibuli is a truly outstanding town throughout the country, [...] distinguished by its extraordinary residents, exceptionally dignified, warm, hard-working and patriotic people”, and added Tkibuli and a miner were “inseparable concepts”.

The PM also pointed out the progress made in terms of raising miners’ salaries and improving their labour safety, adding this would continue in the future as well.

“Tkibuli is called the town of miners and I would like to congratulate all of you on Miners Day. The work of a miner is exceptionally hard work, but also praiseworthy. I would like to express my special respect towards each miner. In 2017 and 2018 there were lots of problems relating to their work [...]. I am glad those problems have been resolved since 2019. Miners’ remuneration has increased by 80 percent, the mines have been reequiped, the labour safety has improved and of course, everything should be done to continue this way”, Kobakhidze noted.

The head of the Government also laid a wreath at the memorial of those who had died in the fight for the country’s unity and in coal mining.
