Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili on Saturday said the development of a new resort to start in western Georgia’s Racha region, on the initiative of the country’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, was a “historic decision”, which would contribute to the growth of tourist flows, creation of employment, and economic development of the region.

She noted that Mravaldzali village of Racha’s Oni municipality was selected as one of the “particularly interesting destinations”, and the state, together with the private sector, would carry out the resort development according to the plan, the Economy Ministry said.

Our task is to turn Mravaldzali into a four-season resort. [...] leading international companies will be involved [in the planning] from the very beginning to select a resort concept accurately and effect further development”, the Deputy Economy Minister said, adding the project would be of “great importance” for Racha and the Government was “closely” working with the investors for the rapid development of its infrastructure.

Racha’s three more villages of Skhartali, Shkhivana and Betlevi have also been selected to be arranged as additional resort areas, Kvrivishvili noted and added that all the selected destinations would be four-season resorts to meet expectations of domestic as well as international travellers.
