Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday paid tribute to the memory of those who had died during a fatal landslide in western Georgia’s Shovi resort last year.

We all remember those hardest days, I want to once more extend my condolences to the family members of the deceased. It was a huge tragedy shaking up the whole country and it is our duty today to express maximum attention and sympathy [to them]. There are particular requests relating to setting the territory [of the tragedy] in order, which is important for their families, and everything will be done to fulfil all the requests”, the PM pointed out.

Kobakhidze added a memorial of the victims and a church would be built on the spot of the tragedy expressing “a little compassion” to those people who had lost family members, the Government Administration said.

Bishop Vakhtang of Nikortsminda performed a funeral service for the souls of the victims and blessed the foundation of the church named after Thirteen Assyrian Fathers.

The head of the Government also noted that a meeting would be held in the coming days for the families of the deceased and all interested individuals to get information about the investigation of the tragedy from the relevant experts.

I promised the family members of the deceased persons to organise a meeting to provide information on the details of the investigation [...]. If they have additional questions, we will delve into these questions as well”, Kobakhidze emphasised.
