Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday highlighted the “good” performance of athletes from the country at the ongoing Summer Olympic Games in Paris by saying “our country ranks 14th among more than 200 Olympic teams, which is a great success”.

Kobakhidze’s comments came after Georgian judokas Lasha Bekauri and Tato Grigalashvili claimed gold and silver medals this week.

Currently, our country ranks 14th among more than 200 Olympic teams, which is a very big success for our small country - thank you to each member of the Olympic team for this”, the PM said.

“Our performance at the Olympics yesterday was very successful. I want to once again congratulate Lasha Bekauri on his second Olympic gold medal. [...] I want to congratulate him and our country on this extraordinary success. I also want to congratulate Tato Grigalashvili once again on his Olympic silver medal”, Kobakhidze continued.

The Georgian Olympic team of 28 athletes is competing across 10 disciplines at the Games.
