Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday congratulated the whole nation on the victory of the judoka Lasha Bekauri and securing the gold medal at the Paris Summer Olympic Games, calling it "exciting to watch".

I would like to congratulate everyone on this unbelievable win. I want to mention that he turned 24 just a couple of days ago, and [already] being a two-time Olympic champion is an incredible accomplishment at this age", Kobakhidze said.

Earlier today, the Tokyo Olympic Games champion Lasha Bekauri made history by becoming the first Georgian to win the gold for his country after defeating Japanese Sanshiro Murao with a score of 10:1 in the 90 kg category at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games 2024.

The PM also applauded Georgian judoka Tato Grigalashvili for claiming a silver medal at the Olympic Games on Tuesday.

I would also like to congratulate Grigalashvili on his success yesterday. He has made a breakthrough by securing the first medal, and it is an important contributing factor to today’s win as well. Thanks to our boys, thank you for these exceptional victories and for giving us a sense of pride," Kobakhidze noted.
